The 5th choice by Ingrid was the 1 Michelin star restaurant Quilon, a very interesting choice where we for the first time were offered a Tasting menu with matching Beers.

Started the evening in the nice bar next to the restaurant where we had some nice cocktails in a really relaxed atmosphere. When we got seated at our table we got presented with their standard 5 courses menu but since we were up for a nice long evening at the table we requested to have a look at their 8 courses menu with matching beers with sounded really interesting. Didn’t took us long for all of us to decide on the 8 courses and was quite excited about trying something new and different.

For each course we had 1 beer between 2 people, which might not seem a lot at first but it actually worked out really well. The beers were all very different and from different parts of the world with Belgium being the dominant country since 3 of the beers where from Belgium. The abv was between 4.2 and 8.5 % – so some of the beers were quite strong but worked perfectly with the spicy Indian food. The most unique beer was the ‘Liefmans Frut’, which we got at the end with the dessert. Tasted more like cider and a lot of strawberry but worked perfectly with the Pistachio cake.

The food was also really lovely with a good kick to it and every dish had basically 2 different things on the plate. Loved the Grilled Scallop served together with the Peppered Shrimps and also the Mini Vegetable Dosa served together with the Mango Ginger Chicken were really special.

Carlos and I also went for the usual kitchen tour and like the rest of the restaurant there was also a very relaxed atmosphere in here – so just a pleasant visit.

We read about that the restaurant has a no tipping policy – but have never come across that before so we actually had to ask – when we got the bill – if that really meant they wouldn’t accept any tips. We were told that this was exactly what it meant since the restaurant is paying their staff well and they don’t want to make a different between the service staff and the kitchen staff. Thought that this was a really nice policy and also meant for us that where we normally see 10 – 15% being added to the bill in service charge – suddenly we didn’t have that extra cost. Therefore it also turned out to be our cheapest Michelin dinner so far but definitely great value for money and we all had a really enjoyable evening.
